AboutRosemary Hardy began her career in England after studies at the R.C.M. in London and in Budapest. She performed and recorded with conductors and artists such as Sir Roger Norrington, David Munrow, Sir John Eliot Gardiner , Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten, and Alfred Deller, with whom she toured the world as a member of the Deller Consort. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, conductors and chamber ensembles. She enjoys a longstanding collaboration with the English composer and conductor, Oliver Knussen, whose fantasy opera double bill, Where the Wild things are and Higglety Pigglety Pop!, based on the classic childrens' books by Maurice Sendak, she has both premiered, recorded and performed countless times. With Oliver Knussen she has also performed a number of works by Benjamin Britten, including Our Hunting Fathers and the operas Owen Wingrave and The Rape of Lucretia. Rosie has a substantial discography: her recording for Sony with the French pianist, Pierre Laurent Aimard, of the early songs of Gyorgy Ligeti won a Grammy nomination, and her performance with the Ensemble Modern under Peter Ebtvos also on Sony Classical, of Gyorgy Kurtag's The Messages of the late R. V. Troussova won both the Edison prize and the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis. She is one of few performers of Schoenberg's great masterpiece for dramatic soprano, Erwartung, which she has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra under Christoph von Dohnanyi. She is an interpreter of Olivier Messiaen's cycle, Poemes pour Mi, which she has performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis, and most recently with Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Daniel Harding and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Ilan Volkov. Rosemary Hardy also works regularly with ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, Schoenberg Ensemble Amsterdam and London Sinfonietta. As a teacher she has given master classes in Tokyo, Stockholm, Jerusalem and Aldeburgh, at the Britten Pears School for Advanced Musicians. In summer 2004 she will be leading vocal studies at the Crescendo Summer Institute for the Arts in Hungary. As an opera singer and actress Rosie enjoys a fascinating and unconventional career. She is a regular member of the "family" of actors and singers in the acclaimed Swiss director, Christophe Marthaler's, productions. One, 20`h . Century Blues, first produced at the Basel Theatre, will be seen next season at the Staatsoper Hannover. Die Schone Mullerin, now running to great acclaim at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, has already been performed at the Berliner Festwoche and the Ruhr Triennale, and will be taken to Vienna, Paris Autumn Festival, Amsterdam (Holland Festival), Brussels and Moscow in 2003. Rosemary Hardy's latest production with Christoph Marthaler, O.T. eine ersatz Passion, received its premiere in Zurich in March 2004, and has already been highly acclaimed. The production has already been invited to this year's Theatertreff Festival in Berlin, and to Geneva. |
