In Argentina, the home of the tango, Los Tangueros has a double meaning -- it means both the people who play the music of the tango, and the people who perform this passionate, infinitely varied dance. With this recording, Emanuel Ax ventures into previously uncharted territory in an exploration of the very exciting and sensual music of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. Piazzolla singlehandedly transformed the tango from a quaint regional dance craze into an international musical phenomenon. Over a period of 50 years, Piazzolla wrote countless compositions incorporating the rhythms and harmonies of his beloved tango, from jazz arrangements to lush orchestral tapestries. Now Emanuel Ax has joined the man who was Piazzolla's pianist and arranger for more than ten years, Pablo Ziegler, in a delightful collection of sultry Piazzolla tangos, arranged for two pianos by Ziegler.
