About
Official Site: http://www.grootomroepkoor.nl/With its 79 singers, the Netherlands Radio Choir is the largest professional choir in the Netherlands. It is also the most versatile in its repertoire. When performing with its full complement of singers, the ensemble concentrates on the major choral works of composers such as Verdi, Janácek, Mahler, Messiaen, Dvorák, Mozart, Roussel, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms. In addition, it participates in concert performances of operas from the 18th to the 20th centuries, including those of Strauss, Gluck, Mascagni, Dvorák and Rossini. The performance of works by contemporary composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Harrison Birtwistle, Julian Anderson and John Adams forms another important aspect of its work. The Netherlands Radio Choir does not only perform large-scale, symphonic repertoire, but also appears in smaller groups as the Ensemble of the Netherlands Radio Choir. The repertoire of these small ensembles includes early music, romantic a cappella and accompanied compositions, and contemporary music. The Netherlands Radio Choir's orchestral collaborations usually involve one of the Dutch radio orchestras, but it also appears frequently with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Guest conductors include Riccardo Chailly, Edo de Waart, Sir Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, Gerd Albrecht, Ingo Metzmacher, Reinbert de Leeuw and Philippe Herreweghe. All concerts are recorded for radio and/or television. The Netherlands Radio Choir sees the training of new choral conductors as one of kits most important tasks and has created a new position - Assistant Conductor - for talented younger choral conductors. The choir helped create the Eric Ericson Master Class for Young Choral Conductors, and has particpated as resident ensemble since its inception in 2001. |
