From his label debut in a Schubert recital in 1954 to his final sessions for Columbia in 1963, his recordings are sought after by collectors and piano lovers. His legendary traversal of the five Beethoven Piano Concertos, as well as the Grieg and Schumann Concertos -- all with George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra -- are still considered by many the definitive performance of these works. This two-disc set captures these extraordinary and mutually responsive artists at their best, in classic stereo-era performances of the two Brahms Piano Concertos, long out-of-print and available here on compact disc for the first time. The coupling also features a special bonus: Fleisher's 1956 mono recordings of solo piano music of Brahms -- the "Waltzes, Op.39" and the "Handel Variations".
